c. 1560 ANNA STAYS- The corset in this underwear ensemble is cut to enhance the square-necklines of Tudor and early Elizabethan period dresses. It is rigidly boned across the front with 1/2" steel bones which lift and compress the bust, creating the conical shape of this period. The front neckline has a modest upward curve, and the back is cut high. This style has ¾” wide shoulder straps adjustable in the front.
FARTHINGALE- The cone farthingale, also known as a Spanish Farthingale, was worn in many European courts from the mid- to late-sixteenth century. It creates the conical shape of this period. This farthingale is shaped with gores and has four spring steel hoops. The hem circumference is between 90" and 95".
ROMANTIC CHEMISE- The chemise is versatile, suitable under 16th to 18th century corsets, or on its own as a nightgown. This chemise has wrist-length full sleeves which finish with a 1 ½” self-fabric flounce. The neckline is softly gathered with an adjustable elastic drawstring. The neck and sleeve edges are untrimmed, and the sleeve can be worn plain or with garters (see last photo). The length of this chemise is mid-calf, with a side-panel adding fullness at the hem.
